Five labourers have been killed when a blast ripped by a tank in a bio-gas unit of an built-in sugar manufacturing unit at Bela village of Nagpur district on Saturday.
Nitin Kulkarni, public relations officer of Manas Agro Indicators Infrastructure Limited, advised The Indian Express, “A blast occurred in a tank in unit 1 of the built-in sugar manufacturing unit at Bela round 2.30 pm whereas welding work was happening as a part of upkeep work. Five labourers, all from the neighbouring Wadgaon village, have been killed within the mishap.”
Kulkarni added, “We had outsourced the job to a Nashik-based firm known as S P Engineering. But because it occurred on our premises, now we have assured compensation to the victims’ households.”
The welding work was going down on a tank of the bio-digester unit, the place molasses is processed to provide bio-gas. Asked if there was any fuel contained in the tank whereas welding work was happening, Kulkarni stated, “The unit was shut for upkeep nevertheless it’s doable that traces of the fuel might have been there.”
The incident triggered pressure within the space, with folks demanding motion in opposition to these accountable and compensation for the victims’ households.
The names of the deceased are Sachin Waghmare, 27, Mangesh Naukarkar, 23, Wasudev Ladi, 34, Prafulla Moon, 25 and Leeladhar Shende (age not specified).
Superintendent of Police (Nagpur Rural) Rakesh Ola stated, “We will register an offence within the matter after preliminary inquiry.”
