Birmingham City have appointed Aitor Karanka as their new head coach on a three-year deal to switch fellow Spaniard Pep Clotet, the second tier Championship membership introduced on Friday.
Karanka, who was an assistant to Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid from 2010-2013, lower his tooth in administration when he took cost of Middlesbrough in November 2013 and guided them to Premier League promotion with a runners-up end in 2016.
Karanka’s final job was with Nottingham Forest within the 2018-19 season the place he requested to be launched from his contract in January with the membership seventh within the Championship.
“I’m delighted to be becoming a member of a membership with the historical past and fanbase that Birmingham City has,” Karanka, 46, stated in an announcement.
“I share the joy and willpower of everybody right here to begin working collectively on all of the challenges that lie forward.”
Birmingham completed the Championship season with a 14-match winless run that noticed the Midlands membership drop from 14th within the standings to complete 20th — two factors above the relegation zone.
Clotet, who had initially agreed to go away on the finish of the season, stepped down earlier this month with 4 video games left to be performed.
