Congress on Saturday mentioned it was in contact with like-minded opposition events to oppose the three farm Bills that can substitute ordinances, drawing the ire of farmer teams in Punjab and Haryana.

Farmers teams within the two states had hit the streets opposing The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance, and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, 2020.

The first ordinance permits sale and buy of crops to happen outdoors state government-regulated Agricultural Produce Market Committee mandis, whereas the opposite two ordinances intention to put off the imposition of stockholding limits on foodstuffs (besides beneath “extraordinary circumstances” akin to conflict and pure calamities of grave nature) and facilitate contraction cultivation (whereby farmers can enter into agreements with patrons earlier than any planting season).

Calling the ordinances “draconian”, Congress communication division in-charge Randeep Surjewala mentioned they’d subjugate the farmers “on the altar of a handful of crony capitalists” and would show to be a “loss of life knell” for agriculture.
