The utility for the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for “Mata Ni Pachedi”, a textile artwork type in Gujarat, has formally been registered on Wednesday. The utility was filed by Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST) final week.
“We received our utility registered on the GI Registry. It will take round three month time for its analysis and approval. We are eager for its profitable GI registration quickly,” mentioned Dr Narottam Sahoo, adviser, Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST), state Department of Science and Technology.
The Geographical Indication is an indication used on the merchandise which have particular geographical origin and possess qualities or a repute which are as a consequence of its origin.
“Mata Ni Pachedi” is a Gujarati time period which interprets to “behind the Mother Goddess”. “Pachedi” is a spiritual textile people artwork that includes Mother Goddess on the centre and her tales and legends filling the remaining fabric. There are at present 70 to 80 individuals from 10-15 households practising this artwork.
Traditionally, these pachedis are hand-painted or block-printed on cotton, hand spun fabric of rectangular form, and pure and mineral colors are utilized for filling the areas and within the dyeing course of. They are known as ‘Mata No Chandarvo’, the good sq. shrine cover, if the textile is sq. in form.
This textile people artwork is solely devoted to depict the tales of Mother Goddess. Because of its sacred nature it’s sometimes called sacred fabric, temple fabric, temple hanging, shrine fabric or ritual fabric of Mother Goddess. It is especially used for rituals and has nice demand throughout Navaratri pageant.
If authorized, this might the 16th GI tag for Gujarat.
