AN ASSISTANT supervisor of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has been arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad for allegedly sharing secret info on Indian fighter plane with an individual affiliated with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The accused, Deepak Shirsat (41), was working at HAL’s Ozar unit in Nashik and was “honey-trapped” by the ISI into sharing important details about Indian fighter plane within the manufacturing line of the corporate, officers stated. He was arrested by ATS’s Nashik unit on Thursday below Sections 3, four and 5 of the Official Secrets Act, 1923 for spying and wrongful communication with overseas brokers. An area courtroom Friday remanded him to police custody for 10 days.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Vinay Rathod (ATS) stated, “After sustained interrogation, it was revealed that shared secret info associated to Indian plane being within the manufacturing line of HAL, manufacturing models and their plans, and so on by means of WhatsApp and different social media (platforms).”
Officials stated they obtained info that an individual employed with HAL was supplying secret details about Indian fighter plane and their Nashik’s manufacturing unit to a foreigner allegedly affiliated with the ISI.
“Shirsat has been working with HAL for 16 years now. We have learnt that he has been sharing info since January 2019 and was honey-trapped into sharing the data with the ISI,” a senior IPS officer stated. The officer stated whereas it was not recognized precisely if Shirsat had shared compromising footage or movies with a girl over which he was blackmailed into sharing important info. “We try to establish its nature.”
Three cellular handsets with 5 sim and two reminiscence playing cards have been seized from Shirsat and despatched to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination, officers stated. “A technical evaluation of the seized materials will reveal what info the suspect offered to the ISI,” one other officer stated.
Last week, 21-year-old Sanjeev Kumar was arrested for taking pictures of the restricted military space at Deolali camp in Nashik and allegedly sending them to a Pakistani WhatsApp group.
