How Asha Bhosle sang the drug anthem ‘Dum Maro Dum’ as an alternative of Lata Mangeshkar : Bollywood News

Believe it or not, the drug anthem ‘Dum Maro Dum Mit Jaye Gham’ from Hare Rama Hare Krishna was to be sung by Lata Mangeshkar! At least that was composer Rahul Dev Burman’s unique plan. But then the movie’s producer-director-leading man Dev Anand, who had a eager ear for music, prompt Asha Bhosle for ‘Dum Maro Dum’.

“Lata sang two lovely solos ‘Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka, Ho Ho Re Ghungroo’ and a beautiful duet ‘Kanchi Re’ for me in Hare Rama Hare Krishna. ‘Dum Maro Dum’ didn’t appear proper for her,” Dev Saab instructed me.

That’s how Asha stepped in. Even after her sterling singing the track nearly didn’t make it into the movie.

When Dev Anand heard ‘Dum Maro Dum’ he instructed RD he discovered it unusual and determined to drop it from the movie. In a panic RD pleaded to at the least let the track be a part of the movie’s soundtrack album, if not a part of the movie.

Eventually ‘Dum Maro Dum’ was filmed and have become one of many greatest hits of RD and Asha’s profession. Ashaji as soon as instructed me ‘Dum Maro Dum’ was essentially the most requested track at her dwell concert events after ‘Oh Mere Sona Re’ (Teesri Manzil).
