Two Delhi University (DU) academics – P Okay Vijayan from Hindu College and Rakesh Ranjan from Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) – have been questioned on Friday by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) in reference to the Elgaar Parishad case.
This comes simply over a fortnight after the NIA arrested a DU instructor – affiliate professor Hany Babu M T, who teaches English – citing his alleged involvement in the identical case.
All three have been concerned within the Committee for the Defence and Release of G N Saibaba, a former Political Science instructor of DU convicted of getting Maoist hyperlinks. Their membership of the committee was additionally allegedly in focus through the duo’s questioning.
According to Vijayan, each of them have been summoned at 10 am and have been allowed to go round 8.30 pm. He stated Ranjan was interrogated first, and he was made to attend till Ranjan’s questioning bought over.
“My interrogation started round Four pm; then he was made to attend. Their focus was on the Bhima Koregaon violence and my function within the Saibaba defence committee,” Vijayan stated. The NIA investigators, Vijayan stated, instructed him that their names had come up through the probe – “so they simply needed to us to make clear.”
Ranjan, who teaches Economics at SRCC, didn’t reply to calls and texts.
Student teams of each schools launched statements condemning the questioning.
The NIA is investigating the connection between “provocative speeches” made at an Elgaar Parishad occasion on December 31, 2017 and the caste violence in Bhima Koregaon in Pune the next day.
