Odisha: Judge holds midnight listening to, sends Major to military custody in dowry case

A neighborhood courtroom in Bhubaneswar held a midnight listening to on Thursday and determined to ship a Major arrested in a dowry torture case to military custody as a substitute of jail.

The choose of sub-divisional judicial Justice of the Peace’s (SDJM) courtroom S Okay Mishra visited the courtroom at 10 pm after makes an attempt to carry the listening to by means of video conferencing failed. The listening to continued until previous 1.30 am.

After the listening to, the choose ordered that the Major arrested be ship to military custody as a substitute of jail.

Earlier, the Mahila Police Station had arrested the Major on the idea of his spouse’s allegation of bodily and psychological torture for dowry and try to homicide. The military officer was staying in Nayapalli space within the metropolis.

A case has been registered towards the military officer on the police station underneath varied sections of the IPC and Dowry Prohibition Act.

The officer had allegedly threatened his spouse to shoot her to dying if she doesn’t deliver cash from her dad and mom.

The spouse in her grievance mentioned that although the matter was settled mutually earlier, her husband continued the torture. Though the police served a discover to the Major, he didn’t reply. On Thursday, he was arrested by police.
