A Chinese soldier was apprehended Monday within the Demchok sector of japanese Ladakh amid tensions over the border standoff. The Indian Army mentioned the soldier had strayed throughout the Line of Actual Control and would quickly be handed over to the PLA.

In an announcement, the Army mentioned, “A PLA soldier, recognized as Corporal Wang Ya Long, was apprehended within the Demchok sector of Eastern Ladakh on 19 October 2020 after he had strayed throughout the LAC.”

The Army mentioned, “a request has additionally been obtained from the PLA” on “the whereabouts of the lacking soldier”, and “as per established protocols, he will likely be returned again to Chinese officers on the Chushul-Moldo assembly level after completion of formalities”.

The Chinese soldier, the Army mentioned, “has been offered medical help together with oxygen, meals and heat garments to guard him from the vagaries of maximum altitude and harsh weather conditions”.

A press release from the National Defence Ministry of China quoted PLA spokesperson Colonel Zhang Shuili saying the soldier misplaced his manner whereas on the lookout for a yak that had gone lacking.

It mentioned herders had requested the soldier to hint the yak. Chinese border guards, Zhang mentioned, knowledgeable the Indian aspect in regards to the lacking soldier “and hoped that the Indian aspect would help in search and rescue”.
