The Railways is ready to finish a colonial-era practise of appointing khalasis or ‘bungalow peons’ who labored on the residences of senior officers, following an order from the Railway Board barring any new appointment to the publish.
In an order issued on August 6, the Railway Board has stated the problem relating to phone attendant-cum-dak khalasis (TADKs) is underneath overview.
“The situation relating to the appointment of TADK is underneath overview in Railway Board. It has, subsequently, been determined that any appointment of recent face substitutes as TADK mustn’t both be processed or made with rapid impact.
“Further, all circumstances accredited for such appointments since 1st July 2020 could also be reviewed and place suggested to Board. This could also be complied with strictly in all Railway institutions,” the order stated.
