A day after a Delhi-based journalist hailing from Kerala, who was detained by UP police together with three others, was booked below the UAPA, two MPs from the state Thursday wrote to PM Narendra Modi looking for his intervention to make sure his launch.
In their letters, Congress Lok Sabha MP from Chalakudy Benny Behanan and CPI’s Rajya Sabha MP Binoy Viswam argued that UP police has flouted all tips laid out by the Supreme Court relating to arrest within the case of Siddique Kappan, secretary of the Delhi unit of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists and who’s related to varied Malayalam information retailers, together with web site azhimukham.com.
Pointing out that Kappan was doing his obligation as a reporter, Behanan stated UP police has given a transparent message to the media that “goal reporting is not going to be allowed within the state.” Viswam stated: “Freedom of press is a cornerstone of a wholesome democracy and arrest of a reputed senior journalist like Kappan on terror expenses is a direct assault on this freedom…”
According to the FIR filed in Maant police station, Kappan, together with Campus Front of India office-bearers Atiq-ur-Rahman and Masood Ahmed, and a person recognized as Alam, had been booked for alleged “conspiracy behind their go to to Hathras”. The FIR alleged they had been making an attempt to invoke riots and threaten regulation and order and social concord.
