Two Naval officers have been killed on Sunday morning after their glider crashed close to the Thoppumpady bridge in Kochi. They took off from the INS Garuda on a routine coaching sortie, the Navy stated in an announcement, including that the glider crashed at round 7 am.

The two officers on the flight have been recognized as Lt Rajeev Jha (39) from Uttarakhand and Petty officer (Electrical Air) Sunil Kumar (29) from Bihar. Jha is survived by his spouse and two children and Kumar is single. They have been declared introduced useless by docs on the INHS Sanjivani.

The Southern Naval Command ordered an inquiry into the incident.

The stays of the glider have been salvaged by the Navy.

This comes two days after another officer was killed in Karnataka’ Karwar on Friday night after his glider plunged into the ocean. His coach was injured and hospitalised.
